15 days of fireworks

As you probably already know, this is the year of the dog according to the Chinese calendar. I am sure you already know the whole tradition of getting into this event. It is really sweet.

Well here in Singapore of course it has to be something unique and something which is nowhere in the world. Here Chinese new year is a 15 days continuous celebration. For 15 days there were different events all over the town. My favourite was the Taiwanese drum concert and the open air Chinese movie festival where I saw a fantastic movie called "Perhaps Love".

I was very impressed with the whole festival. The New Year's Eve wasn't that wild though, with that much of a big street party that used to be in european cities.

What was the most shocking for me that there were fireworks for 15 days every night near Esplanade at the bay. And when I say fireworks I am not talking about just 30 seconds and two rockets. I mean we are in Singapore, so it has to be the best fireworks in the world. I caught a few nights this show and I was impressed each time. It was just breathtaking.

I think they spent one million euro each night just only on fireworks. But yeah, that is Singapore, to have something that nobody has, to do something that nobody does. As their tagline says: "Uniquely Singapore". However if you think that they spend so much money for a 15 day fireworks and there are people who don't have anything to eat in the nearby countries, then you feel that maybe a 3 day fireworks would do just fine and you could use that money to help others.
